In the pursuit of doctoral study we searched for a program that would accomplish two objectives; to find a program that would allow us to make a measurable contribution to our African American community and the second to facilitate career growth and advancement. We chose the Adult and Continuing Education program in the college of Arts and Sciences at National-Louis University because our preliminary inquiry revealed that this program was one of very few programs in the U.S. that included the lived experiences of African Americans in this country as a part of graduate curriculum. It had been our independent experiences in our traditional Eurocentrically based education, that the true opportunity to study culturally relevant curriculum had not been available to us. read more...
