Collective Consciousness

In the pursuit of doctoral study we searched for a program that would accomplish two objectives; to find a program that would allow us to make a measurable contribution to our African American community and the second to facilitate career growth and advancement. We chose the Adult and Continuing Education program in the college of Arts and Sciences at National-Louis University because our preliminary inquiry revealed that this program was one of very few programs in the U.S. that included the lived experiences of African Americans in this country as a part of graduate curriculum. Selfethnic Racial Identity

The liberatory transformative process of “self” to Selfethnic, is inclusive of the Summoning to Selfethnic Awareness, The Immersion in the Serarch for Selfethnic Knowledge and the Internalization of Selfethnic Knowledge are all stages in the process that we have described thus far of the experience that a person of African descent may encounter when studying the Africentric intellectual knowledge base during graduate study. The participants in this study have gained knowledge of Selfethnic and experienced a paradigm shift to African Centered values and beliefs.
